Africa Bags sells these items to help
the people in Malawi out of their extreme poverty by providing a sustainable
income.All profits from the sale
of the bags go back to the villages.
In
addition, purchasing
and using cloth grocery bags will provide a long-term benefit to the
earth by reducing depletion of non-renewable resources caused by
plastic
production. Finally, our environment is improved by
not becoming contaminated with the toxic waste and other hazards caused by
decomposing plastic bags.
MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Africa Bags is
threefold:
to help a country in
desperate need,
to form a charitable organization in which all donations and
profits would go directly to the people for which it was formed,
to do
something beneficial for the environment.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Africa
Bags, Inc. was started by two Coloradans, Todd and Holly Petitt and is a
non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization. The focus of Africa Bags is to create economic opportunity in the African country of
Malawi where natural resources are limited and the Gross Domestic Product is just $650/person/year. In 2007, Africa Bags brought treadle sewing
machines and other necessary materials to three poor Malawi villages. Now, the people can create and sell their bags and break the cycle of
